What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are small titanium posts that are inserted into your jawbone to act as a replacement for your natural tooth roots. A dental implant is one of the most reliable and durable solutions for replacing missing teeth and can last a lifetime with proper care.

The entire implant is composed of three separate pieces; this includes the following components:

  • The implant post, which is the titanium piece that’s inserted into your jawbone.
  • The abutment, which is a connector piece that attaches the implant post to the restoration.
  • The restoration, which is the visible part of the implant that replaces the missing tooth/teeth.

Benefits Of Dental Implants

Compared to other smile restoration options, dental implants are truly revolutionary! Not only do they look and feel like your natural teeth, but they also offer a wide range of benefits:

  • Improved chewing ability: Dental implants are designed to be strong and durable, so you won’t have to worry about your implant shifting or slipping when you eat.
  • Improved oral health: Dental implants do not require the alteration of adjacent teeth like other tooth replacement options, such as bridges, so your natural teeth are left untouched. Additionally, the implant stimulates the jawbone and prevents it from deteriorating, which helps maintain the structure of your face.
  • Natural aesthetic: Dental implants utilize an artificial root, giving them the closest design to your natural teeth. They truly look, feel, and perform as if you never had a tooth missing.
  • Long-lasting: Dental implants are designed to last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance.
  • Convenience: Dental implants can make life easier since they don’t require any special maintenance, daily removal, or cleaning tools.

Types Of Dental Implants

At Smile Studio, we offer various dental implant options to meet your particular needs. Whether you are seeking a replacement for only one tooth or many teeth, our experienced team will work with you to find the best solution.

Single Implants

Single implants are designed to replace one missing tooth. They consist of an implant post, an abutment, and a custom-made crown to match the color, shape, and size of your surrounding teeth.

The implant process requires multiple visits and can take several months from start to finish, but we promise the results are worth it!

  • First, the post is placed in the jawbone during a surgical procedure and topped with a healing abutment. The healing abutment keeps the site free from food particles during healing and keeps the implant accessible for subsequent steps.
  • Over a healing period of roughly three or four months, the post will fuse to the existing jawbone. This process is known as osseointegration and allows for the secure stability of the implant.
  • Following osseointegration, we will remove the healing abutment, place your final abutment, and take a digital impression. Using CEREC, we can quickly adapt this impression into design blueprints for your custom-made crown.
  • From there, our on-site milling machine can precisely craft and polish your perfect crown within just one appointment.

Implant-Supported Bridges

Implant-supported bridges are designed to replace multiple missing teeth in a row. This option is perfect for those who do not want a partial denture or a traditional bridge and instead seek a healthier, more dependable alternative

  • The implant-supported bridge process varies slightly from the single implant. Rather than placing one post, our team will place two posts in the jawbone on either side of the smile gap.
  • Following osseointegration, our team will use CEREC technology to custom-create a bridge that will attach over the two implant posts and abutments. Using implants ensures added security, stability, and strength to your restoration.
