Top Three Reasons To Keep Going to the Dentist

We get it! Booking your next visit to the dentist might not be one of your top priorities, and MAYBE even something you don’t look forward to…GASP!!!

And while you may think your teeth are fine, and you can wait another six months or year, many people don’t realize just how beneficial routine check-ups and cleanings are. At Smile Studio, we show our patients that going to the dentist is a positive and painless experience, but more importantly, just how vital regular visits are.

Here are the top three reasons why EVERYONE needs to make a trip to the dentist a regular habit and top priority.

1) IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT YOUR TEETH
Most people go to the dentist to take care of their teeth and gums and often do not realize the benefits gained in other areas of the body. Over 50 percent of people over the age of 30 suffer from gum disease in the U.S. Not only can bacteria from gum disease (Periodontitis) cause bad breath, teeth to loosen, painful chewing and swollen gums, it can also enter your bloodstream and have negative effects on your heart, lungs and other organs. Regular examinations of your tongue and throat can also help detect early stages of oral cancer and other diseases that may not be found without consistent dentist visits. Poor oral health has also been linked to other issues such as heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis and some forms of cancer.

2) A BETTER SMILE MEANS BETTER SELF-ESTEEM
Some people have such severe issues with their teeth they may think it just is not worth it or even not possible to get them fixed. At Smile Studio we say there is no oral issue too big or too small for us to conquer together with our patients. Changing your smile can change the way you look at yourself increasing your overall happiness and willingness to pursue opportunities you may have previously been too embarrassed to go after. Sometimes the process may only take a few visits, and other times it may be a longer journey, but we guarantee you will gain more than just a better smile from fixing the appearance of your teeth. Regular dentist visits can also help reduce problems with perpetual bad breath which not only affects you, but everyone around you!

3) IT IS EASIER AND CHEAPER TO PREVENT A PROBLEM THAN TO FIX ONE
Regular dentist visits are really about preventative care. In other words, something that can be identified as an issue early on and taken care of now is going to save you time, pain, and definitely money later on. Most insurances will cover one to two dentist visits a year but may not cover a much more expensive procedure that could have been prevented by regular check-ups. Those who regularly visit their dentist may not always see all the benefits that come from those check-ups, but those who only come in after something has developed into an issue definitely see the disadvantages of skipping out on routine oral exams.
